Get To Know McKenzie Thomas, a junior at Meridian High School. McKenzie gives more of her time than most teenagers, especially onces as busy as she is. When she isn't camping with her family or cruising the street of Meridian in her pimped out '98 Ford Mustang, she is volunteering at Special Olympics, Project Unify or Drug Free Idaho. Oh, and did I mention she was also a three-year starter and captain of the Meridian volleyball team too when she has time?

McKenzie Thomas - Meridian High School

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am McKenzie Jean Thomas, and I am a Junior at Meridian High School. I am a 4.0 Student-Athlete. I have two little sisters Allie, and Shayna. I also have my wonderful 3 year old brother Tristan. I am involved in Special Olympics and am blessed to have had the opportunity to represent Idaho in a Project Unify Conference in March of 2012. I am also a member of Idaho Drug Free Youth. I am Junior Representative in Student Council. I am 3 year Varsity setter and team captain. I have played Club Volleyball for 6 years. I have enjoyed having my little sister on the team with me this season. I am so excited to get to mentor a lot of the other players in my high school program this year, and pass what I know on to them. I love coaching and teaching, and its great that my coach trusts me enough to let me get some experience so young. I also enjoy being outdoors, riding 4-wheelers and camping. I love spending time with family and friends, and showing my spirit at games.

What are your team's biggest strengths?
My High School team has a good reputation for having good Sportsmanship, and i am proud to be a warrior. When we step off the court, win or lose, we know we have played with heart and represented Meridian High to the best of our abilities.

What team are you most excited to compete against every year, and why?
The team we are most excited to play every year is Mountain View, they are our rivals and it is always a good game. We beat them twice this year for the first time in seven years! I have a great friend on the team so its always a lot of fun to talk up our teams before the game.

What is your favorite sport to watch? Participate in?
Volleyball definitely! Although i love a variety of sports, volleyball is always at the top!

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Phillips at Meridian High School. She was my teen living, and parent and child devolvement teacher. She is always fun, energetic and a great mentor.

I drive a 1998 ford Mustang, yellow with black detail, 2 10 inch subs, Momo foot pedals, custom stick shift lever, sequential turn signals and rear window louver.

Favorite food?
My favorite food is Qdoba Grilled Chicken Nachos. They are the best!

What is your most memorable moment in a game?
I have several memorable moments, one of my favorites is when I served a set to win 25 to 0. Also at the top of my list is when I dove to dig a tip, and my middle slammed it down for a kill!

What is your most embarrassing moment of all time?
Most embarrassing moment is when I was learning to drive my mustang, and I stalled 6 times in a subdivision intersection near my house. I had to call my dad to come drive my car the rest of the way home because I couldn't figure it out.
