DJ Wright - Senior, Orofino HS

RC: The Central Idaho League has produced some of the more prominent 2A football squads in the state of Idaho. With your Maniacs' atop the CIL, do you feel the tradition will continue?
DJ: I definitely feel this year we have a great chance to be contenders for the state championship. We still have quite a ways to go, but we have tons of potential. If we keep getting better each week, we're going to get to where we want to be.

RC: How big is Kamiah-Orofino rivalry? And with last years 7-6 loss to the Kubs in the 2006 semi-finals, will it be even more heated?
DJ: The Kamiah-Orofino rivalry to us is like Idaho and BSU. It's like North Carolina and Duke. It's just a great rivalry between two good programs. And after last year's loss, we're definitely getting a little more pumped up.

RC: Stepping up to the line of scrimmage, what thoughts go through your head before leading the OHS offense down the field?
DJ: I think one of the most important things even before stepping up to the line of scrimmage is in the huddle. I try to get the guys a little more jacked up. Getting them excited and ready to go is a huge part that is needed to lead an offense. Next, I step up under center. I find what coverage the defense is giving me. I try to read whether or not a team is blitzing and, if needed, I might try to audible plays to give us a better chance to score.

RC: What is your favorite thing to do in the community of Orofino, Idaho?
DJ: I just love playing sports in Orofino. If I'm not playing something, I'm probably swimming or watching movies.

RC: What song is currently playing on your MySpace page?
DJ: My MySpace page is playing "Little Tiny Everything" by The Sugi Tap.

RC: People around town can spot you driving a...
DJ: Old 1993 burgundy Toyota Camry.

RC: If you were to pick an inspirational quote that has carried you as an athlete as well as a person, what one would it be?
DJ: "Do right." My coach Tony Snyder has been telling everybody that since day 1. We believe in a little bit of karma at OHS. If we are doing the right things, good things will just fall into place.

RC: 10 years down the road. Your 27 years old. What are you doing with your life?
DJ: I am hopefully making lots of money working public relations or advertising.

RC: Who is your favorite teacher at OHS?
DJ: My favorite teacher is Mr. Tony Snyder. He is our P.E. and weight training teacher. He is one of the funniest people I know and is always getting everybody excited.

RC: What advice do you have for upcoming letterman that would like to attain the success you have on the gridiron?
DJ: I would tell them to keep working hard, because it's over a lot faster than you think. Don't ever settle for anything. Always strive for the best.
