Pos: RB/LB
School: Prairie
Height: 5-11
Weight: 175
Excuse the community of Cottonwood if it seems a bit more giddy than usual.
With the upstart Prairie High School football team sporting a 3-1 record with primarily underclassman, it’s no wonder why the White Pine League program has the whole town buzzing. Besides, this could be the first year the hometown Pirates qualify for a state berth in over a decade—a more than feasible goal for PHS two-way standout Kyle Daly.
“ It’s definitely a big goal for us.” Notes Daly, an all WPL league selection at linebacker a year ago. “ The whole town is pretty pumped about how we are doing. We had the most people I have ever seen at our home field last week, so we just got to keep on winning.”
Last season, Prairie finished a game short of the 3rd berth to state out of the eight-team conference with a 6-3 record, even attaining a win over league foe and eventual state-runner-up Genesee.
“ We had a lot of guys return from last season’s team that actually should of went to state if we didn’t look past a couple teams, “ says the three-sport letterman, “ But we have a lot of threats on offense, and we have done alright so far this season.”
Daly, who currently holds a 3.8 grade point average, is quick to credit a bulky offensive line that has paved the way for fellow running back, Brandon Waller, and himself.
“Our line has really opened things up for our offense,” says Daly, who is averaging nearly ten-yards-a-pop in his junior campaign. “ They are pretty big.”
In last Fridays WPL clash with Deary, Daly went down on the second play from scrimmage, breaking a metacarpal bone in his right hand sidelining the two-year letterman for the remainder of the contest and for Prairie’s upcoming opponent, Timberline.
Daly hopes to return to action after their bye week on September 28th, before facing Troy the following week.
