After winning just one conference game last season the Aberdeen Tigers look to come out in the new campaign with a new attitude.

Leading the change will be new Head Coach Stephen Grigg. He’ll take over for a group that went 4-17 last year.

At the top of the list for areas to improve is the ability to put points on the board. The Tigers struggled mightily with this last season, only scoring above 50 points on four occasions.

In an effort to improve upon the fortunes on the hardwood in Aberdeen, the first year head coach will be implementing an exciting new brand of basketball.

“We will play team basketball with up-tempo run and gun,” stated Grigg.

Talent-wise, the Tigers appear to have a couple players who are primed to lead them as they try to make an impact in the 2A District 5-6 Conference.

Senior Ethan Elliott is back to man the reigns at the point guard position. His new coach described him as a great point guard who is lightning quick, the latter of which should translate well to the run and gun style.

Also back to help lead Aberdeen is junior swingman Houston Wahlen, an outstanding shooter who has the potential to put points on the board in a hurry.

Along with the primary duo of note for the Tigers, multi-sport star Oscar Klassen returns, bringing a level of toughness to the squad.

Other than West Side three times, a 54-46 loss at Soda Springs late in the season was the only time in conference play which Aberdeen kept it within ten points. Grigg will look to some new players to help make sure his team is more competitive this time around.

Leading the newcomers is junior Juan Juarez. The coach was excited about the talents of his new piece.

“High energy player with a non-stop motor,” said Grigg.

The group that will be on the floor in Aberdeen this winter allows for the coaching staff to implement their new style in what they hope will be a fairly seamless process.

“Athletic team with lots of kids that can contribute,” he stated.

That depth should benefit the Tigers as they begin to be more competitive in their games. It is obvious though that the breath of fresh air has ignited the boys basketball program at Aberdeen as they get ready for the new season.
