The Rocky Mountain Grizzles are coming off another successful year entering the 2014-15 season. After a fourth place finish at the state tournament and a runner-up finish in the 5A SIC district playoffs, the Grizzles look to build off their recent success and have another dynamite year entering the new season.

Heading into the new year, there will be a changing of the guard for this year’s Grizzlies team. Four starters from last year are gone, including All-Idaho first team member John Sherle, Boise State football commit Kokoa Nawahine, Jake Knight, and leading scorer/All-Idaho second team member EJ Boyce.

Key returners for Rocky this year are senior guard/forward Logan Skurdal, and senior guard Treighton Shepherd, both were and will be important pieces/leaders this season for a younger Grizzly squad. Key newcomers will be sophomore Kolby Lee, and sophomore Jacob Erickson.

Leading Rocky Mountain again this season is fourth year head coach Dane Roy, who has established a great base for Rocky basketball by always having a team that works hard and that works together.

“With our lack of experience this season we must figure out how to do the little things really well. We must learn early what it takes to be successful at the 5A varsity level. Our conference is filled with very good competition, but if we can learn to do the little things well and play together we will definitely be right their battling for a state appearance at the end of the year,” said Coach Roy.

If Rocky Mountain wants to return to the state tournament for the third year in a row they will have to do those little things that Coach Roy mentioned, as well as work hard on both ends of the floor and cut down on their turnovers.

With Skurdal and Shepherd both returning from last year, Rocky has a great leadership base entering into the new season. If they can get the rest of the team working toward the same team goal they will have a chance to do special things and be in the hunt to qualify for another state berth.

GAMES TO WATCH: Rocky Mountain only plays Eagle and Meridian once this season (due to the new pod system) on January 23, 2015 @ Rocky Mountain and January 24, 2015 @ Meridian. Make sure you catch these always heated rivalry games.
