Since a wild run in the district tournament in 2011 the Marsh Valley Eagles have experienced some difficulty finding that same level of success inside the gym in Arimo.

That state tournament team has been followed by a few below .500 years, something 8th year Head Coach Jason Brower hopes to see changed this time around.

The Eagles will be trying to do just that in a somewhat new-look 3A Southeast Idaho Conference which saw the loss of Bear Lake in all sports for the current academic year.

Also within the conference is Snake River and American Falls. The Panthers made the state tournament last season but lost many of those players, while the Beavers went winless.

This season appears to be the best chance in recent memory for Marsh Valley to break into contention within league play.

The Eagles will be relying upon what Brower describes as strong junior and senior classes to help turn the tide.

After going 6-14 last season, the young group of players will have much more experience for the new year.

With many of those players receiving plenty of playing time over the past couple of seasons, Brower will have perhaps the most experienced team in the conference.

Leading the way for Marsh Valley will be Jake Barker, Andrew Vaughn and Tyler Dunn.

The trio will be tasked with providing leadership for the squad.

It will be important for the Eagles to find some players who are able to contribute some scoring for a team which did not have any games after the first two of the season over 60 points.

Marsh Valley will utilize a disciplined style of basketball with plenty of safe passes and smart shots being emphasized. The goal will be to get the ball in the hands of nearly every player on the floor each time up and down the court.

With no one player appearing ready to take over as the primary scorer the Eagles will need to rely on that style to put points on the board.

Building team chemistry in the early going will be needed to ensure that Marsh Valley is able to effectively employ the half-court offense that they are expected to play with this season. Against more up-tempo teams such as Snake River the task will be to make sure the pace of the game stays within what Brower and his Eagles want it to be.
