Team Preview:

The Rimrock Raiders will face an uphill battle this season in the 1A Western Idaho Conference. The Raiders will have to try and replace some major loses after graduating three seniors. Coach John Hannah will also have to replace two players he was counting on this season but both moved away.

“At our size of school if you lose one or two boys that really hurts,” Hannah said.

One player the coach will count on is sophomore Rigo Lino. The coach describes Lino as a “do everything” guard.

“He’s going to be our leader on the court. He’ll start the offense. It’s asking a lot out of a sophomore but I think he’s up to the task of asking him to run the team. He’s very coachable and he does what you want out of him,” Hannah said.

Outside of that Hannah described a lot uncertainty and question marks. The positive is Rimrock has
17 boys in the program. But of the three seniors only one has never player before, one is new and the other hasn’t played since freshman year. The two juniors haven’t played since they were freshman. The rest of the team is comprised of six freshman and four sophomores.

The starting lineup with be a freshman, a couple of sophomores and a senior who hasn’t played for a few years.

“Our lineup is still up in the air,” Hannah said. “It’s wide open. If the freshman and the sophomores prove out, they’ll be starting. We’re not going to be tall but we have some quickness.”

Clearly this is a transition year for Hannah and the Raiders. With so many young players the future could be bright, but for now it’s going to be difficult. The 1A Western Idaho Conference is arguable the best in Idaho with state runner up Ambrose returning its top two players. Liberty Charter and Notus are also talented, well coached and experienced teams.

“With our district depending how these younger kids come on, I feel we’re going to have to play hard defense and score off transition. I don’t think we’ll able to sit in half court and power the ball to the basket. We’re going to be small, but we have quickness.
