Gerrett Blattner all-conference 1st team DL-2nd team OL, Kent Cummins all-conference 2nd team RB

Any “Key Players” that you lost from last year?
Kyle Isham 1st Team all-conference & all state DB, great leader and a force on both sides of the ball. Tanner Potter OL- 3 year starter, lots of experience, very reliable player. Garrett Westergard WR/KR/P, big play guy in our passing game and on kick returns.

Do you have any new incoming “impact” players?
Zane Danz OL/LB Jr., Aaron Mays TE/DL So., Landen Gammett QB/DB So.
As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
As has been the case for the last 8 years, our strength will be our running game. We feel like we have one of the best offensive lines in our division and a good core of running backs.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Our focus this season will be on improving our play action passing game.

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
We should be very tough along the defensive line and we have some talent and depth in our defensive backfield as well.

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
We need to force more turnovers on defense and get a better at bringing pressure against the pass.

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
We were a young team last year as 2/3 of our team were Freshmen and Sophomores; it will be interesting to see how much difference a year makes. We got off to a good start last year before being hit hard by injuries. The hope is that we have improved depth this season and that will be the difference between making the playoffs and advancing once we get there.

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
Now that we are in a three team conference (with Challis and Grace) and playing each other twice during the regular season, it will be interesting to see what type of adjustments each of the teams make when we play each other the second time around.

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
Staying healthy and staying focused.

If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be?
It would be nice for the defense to have the opportunity to score on extra point attempts instead of the play being blown dead on a blocked kick or interception.

Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football?
It’s certainly not to get yelled at by the parents and fans. The best part about coaching is seeing the players mature and improve over their four years. I want them all to be successful, but more than anything I want them to want it for themselves.

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
I have a lot of history here as a player and a coach so it is hard to imagine being anywhere else. We get great support from our community and alumni that have moved away but still keep track of how we are doing.
