Who do you have coming back this year?
Tanner Grant, Wr/Db/12, Alex Dovalina WR/DB/12, Johnny Herrera QB/DB/11, Mario Dovalina WR/DB/12, Marky DeLaPena RB/LB/12, Luis Nunez OL/DL/12, Austin Underwood OL/DL/12, Colebee Ransom DE/WR/12

Any Returning Players with Honors?
Tanner Grant All conference WR and DB, Luis Nunez All conference OL, Colebee Ransom All conference DL, Marky DeLaPena All conference LB,

Do you have any new incoming “impact” players?
Kell Ransom – WR/LB/10 – will help us on both sides of the ball- he has really good speed and finds the endzone a lot, Brian Heleker OL/LB/12, Mariel Avila OL/DL/11, Tully Martin OL/DL/10, Walker Lambert OL/DL/11, Mikhail LeBow RB/LB/11, Cory Lopez OL/DL/12, Kaden Jenkins DB/WR/12
As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
We want to spread the ball around to lots of different players and give them a chance to be a difference maker. That process starts with the quarterback who is back from last season– Johnny Herrera. He is much improved from last year and we will have some weapons to get the ball to in wide receivers Kell Ransom, Tanner Grant, and Alex Dovalina who we expect to make a lot of big plays for us. In the backfield Mikhail LeBow and Marky DeLaPena will carry the load and gain the yards in the box. We want to be balanced and make the defense run sideline to sideline. Our anchor of the line is Luis Nunez and we will be building a new cast of lineman around him this year.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
We need to be consistent throwing the ball and getting our playmakers the ball in space. We have to be able to establish a run game when we play our conference foes. We must get in the endzone a lot more than we did last season. We have to put points up on the board.

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
We will have good team speed this year on defense. We have all conference defensive players Tanner Grant, Marky DeLaPena, and Colebee Ransom all returning this year to anchor our defense. Alex Dovalina and Tanner Grant will be our safeties and both are 3 year starters and we are looking forward to both of them having break out seasons. Our linebacker group will include Brian Heleker and we are looking for the other piece. The front will have 3 new starters this year and we will look to play a lot of kids in those positions to keep our defense fresh as possible. We will fly around to the football and play with a very physical mentality.

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
We have to be better on 3rd down. We have to get some stops and get the offense back on the field. We will continue to focus on turnovers and making big plays, but we have to stand up and make some stops on the money downs.

Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season?
Hustle…Hit…Never Quit

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
? It’s a new season and what happened last year has no effect on what can happen this year. We have a bunch of new faces on the varsity coming up from a successful JV season. We have a core group of kids who have worked their tails off to make this year special. Camp went really well and we are excited to get started.

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
Fruitland. They are the team to beat again and we have them for our conference opener at home. It’s a rivalry game and if we are going to be any good this year, that will be the game to prove it.

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
We have to stay healthy. Our core group of players will be very good, but we lack depth.

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
We are the perennial under dogs and our kids have a very salty attitude that makes working with them very fun and exciting.
