The Timberline Wolves are coming off back-to-back state tournament berths the last two seasons; but entering the 2015-16 season the Wolves will be without all five starters (G. Beryhill, B. Gonser, C. Mallory, I. Fisher, B. Salcines) from last year’s SIC regular season champion squad.
Timberline went 20-6 last season, but stumbled in the state tournament and lost their first two games. Third year head coach, Bruce Logsdon, hopes to keep the momentum going and has key pieces returning that played meaningful minutes off the bench last season. Returning for the Wolves are three senior guards in senior guard, Brock Rice, senior guard, Tyson Larson, and senior guard, Jack Ford. Rice was a spark off the bench and provided consistent steady minutes and scoring for Timberline. He and the rest of the seniors will need to provide that again, but this time they will need to perform as starters.
Offense: Like last season, Timberline’s strength comes from moving and swinging the ball on offense. With a plethora of guards that can shoot, the Wolves will want to keep that movement to create open shots for their shooters. Areas of struggle were rebounding and surprisingly free-throw shooting. To help in the rebounding department Timberline has added three seniors in 6’7 senior center, Josh Clayon, 5’9 senior guard, Tyson Larson, and 6’1 senior forward, Chris Wagner. These seniors will be called upon to rebound and provide stability for the Wolves in the front court.
Defense: Timberline will play a lot of man to man this season, and Coach Logsdon hopes his team can be a little more consistent on the defense end of the floor. We need to defend with greater pressure to create turnovers and rebound the ball consistently to help fuel our offense.
Wrap-Up: Timberline’s motto this season is "Family." In order for the Wolves to be successful this season, its six seniors will need to lead out and provide consistent steady play for the rest of the team. They will need to build each other up and play with confidence, because it seems heading into the season Timberline will be short on floor experience and will need each other to have another successful year.
GAMES TO WATCH: Timberline will play Boise High only once this season on January 16, 2016 at Timberline High School. These are always exciting games so make sure you get out watch Timberlines seniors. This team will be fun to watch as the season goes on.
