Team Preview

Written by: Sven Alskog

Led by First Team All-State selection Kaleigh Ranisate from the guard position, the Genesee Bulldogs look primed to make another run to the state tournament this season.

Ranisate, a senior, will be again relied upon to fill up the basket on the offensive end while providing leadership on the floor.

Head Coach Brandon McIntosh is also excited about Courtney Burt, a sophomore who will combine with Ranisate to give Genesee a dangerous duo from the perimeter.

As a result of having outstanding depth and speed, the Bulldogs will play a fast-paced style on offense and attack the basketball on the other end.

After falling in each of their two games at the state tournament last season to Raft River and Idaho City, the team is hungry for another chance, something McIntosh is excited to watch play out.

“They are excited to get back on the court and get back to state after going two and out last year,” he said.

In order to get back to the state tournament and have the opportunity to contend for a state title, the Bulldogs have one key x-factor according to their head coach.

“Want to…the team needs to bring the ‘want to’ attitude every day, together,” said McIntosh.

Seniors Kayla Cornell and Ciera Mayer look to finish their high school careers on a high note, with Mayer the defender who will often be tasked with slowing down the top scorer for the opposition.

A relatively small group, the Bulldogs will rely on Calysta Prindle to provide some needed size down-low against bigger teams.

For Genesee, replacing the lost production of Sammy Sperber and Rachel Linehan will be huge, especially in regards to leadership, a role the new seniors will be expected to step into.
