2A Canyon Conference

PRESEASON COACHES POLL
1. Declo
2. Wendell

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Mason Lawton, Senior, Wendell
Angel Espino, Senior, Wendell
Keegan Duncan, Junior, Declo
Trey Smyer, Senior, Declo

After a 9-16 record and a state tournament appearance last season, Declo hopes to see a spike in wins this time around for a team that was competitive in each game in the 2A tourney.

Second year Hornets coach Jacoby Fox welcomes back junior Keegan Duncan and senior Trey Smyer, a pair that can be a good inside-out presence.

Replacing Trey Ramsey and Hunter Olsen will be a challenge, but for a bunch of athletes who know how to win, finding the pieces should be within the realm of possibility.

For a team that had been coming off a 1-21 mark the year prior, almost getting to double-digit wins last season has to be seen as a victory for Declo.

The only other team in the Canyon Conference is the Wendell Trojans, who welcome in first year head coach AJ Kelsey.

Wendell is led by the trio of Felipe Paniagua, Angel Espino and Mason Lawton.

Blake Hughes is another player the coaching staff says has looked good in practice.

“We are trying to be more disciplined on offense and defense. We want to keep improving our shooting and fundamentals,” said Kelsey.

After going winless last season, the Trojans are hoping to be competitive in as many games as possible to turn the tides for the program.
