The resurgence of the Wood River Wolverines a year ago created a ripple effect across the 4A Great Basin West Conference, resulting in a great battle for supremacy with Twin Falls.

Those Wolverines won the battle a year ago thanks to an undefeated campaign in conference play, but have lost a good amount of talent from that team, meaning things could get interesting yet again.

Along with the Minico Spartans, Wood River and Twin Falls should be the favorites in what appears to be a wide-open conference race.

In order for that to happen for the Bruins however they will need the offense to come together quickly.

"I would not say that we have too many, if any strengths right now," said 11th year Head Coach Allyn Reynolds. "We lost most of our offensive firepower to graduation, so we are looking."

While the offense might not be where Twin Falls is accustomed to it being, the defense should help to keep the Bruins in games, with Reynolds hoping to be able to piece together a competent running game as has been the staple over the years for his squads.

Taryn Casperson will be one of the running game options behind a to-be-named quarterback.

Up front Austin Hatch can be expected to be a team leader on each line, as the senior takes on the best of the best from the opposition.

The strength of the defense is obvious.

"Our defensive front four of Conner Bradly, Cy Mahlke, Austin Hatch and Hudson Klundt," said Reynolds.

He acknowledges there are some key areas for improvement.

"Not giving up the big play and shutting people down when we have them in third and long situations."

Early in the season it will be interesting to see how Twin Falls shapes up to the competition.

"[I'm excited] to see if we can compete early with teams due to our lack of experience," said Reynolds.

One thing is for certain though, the Bruins will be tested right out of the gates to begin the season, with big battles against Vallivue, Pocatello and Wood River in the first three weeks before the annual Service Bowl against cross-town rival Canyon Ridge.

"It is our cross-town rival and it is a showcase to honor men and women of the armed services," added Reynolds.

That game against Canyon Ridge can be viewed live and free here on IdahoSports.com.
