Entering his third year, Canyon Ridge head man Sean Impomeni hopes to bring the Riverhawks towards the upper portion of the conference standings as the team looks to earn a playoff spot for the first time since 2014.
Impomeni has a quality offensive line that should open up some holes to run between for a backfield led by Reilly Dahlquist and MJ Brooks.
Heading into his junior season, Brooks is listed as an incoming impact player along with quarterback Johnny Eastman.
Eastman is going to be relied upon to try improving the passing game for the Riverhawks, something which has not been a focal point of the offense in recent years.
Defensively a couple of key talents stand out for Canyon Ridge, including Kyle Symes at linebacker and Bryck Morrison on the defensive line.
Speed will be the area of strength for the group. The Riverhawks hope to improve pursuit to the ball carriers and get more takeaways.
For a unit that had a hard time slowing down opposing offenses last season, including allowing more than 40 points on six different occasions, improvement will have to occur in a big way in order to get Canyon Ridge into the upper echelon of the conference.
But if there is one thing Impomeni knows already, it’s that all that matters is what happens on the field, not what’s on paper or said between teams and players in the offseason.
“Talk is cheap, let’s go play.”
The obvious highlight of the schedule for the Riverhawks will come on September 15 at Twin Falls for the annual Service Bowl between the two city rivals.
Prior to that Canyon Ridge takes on Columbia and Ridgevue on the road to begin the season and Shelley at home in another non-conference duel on September 8.
