A couple of seasons ago the roster for the Castleford Wolves featured eight total freshman at the varsity level and six seniors.

When all of those seniors exited the program in 2015 it left plentiful opportunities in regards to playing time for that sophomore class, along with the now senior class, which struggled to a one win season last season in the one year under Russ Burnum.

Earlier this summer Brian Lowry was announced as the new head coach for Castleford, making him the fourth coach in four seasons, something which is difficult for any program to overcome.

Lowry hails from Greenfield, Missouri, and played collegiately at William Jewell College where he was a tight end. He finished his degree at Missouri State.

At the beginning of August, Lowry wrote a little about himself for the Castleford High School site, including a part about what his vision is for the football program.

"I want our football team to enjoy the great sport they are playing. The hard work that we will put in during practice will pay off on Friday nights. I want our young men to be competitive in every game we play and whether we are winning or if the scoreboard is against us you will see the same relentless effort until the final whistle blows. I believe the disciplines that they learn on the football field will carry over to the classroom and throughout their lives. My goal is to help build good football players who turn into great community leaders, great husbands, and great fathers."

For a program that has struggled mightily over recent years, the excitement is high to see improvement under the new head coach.

On the field, Castleford will have to replace lineman Caleb Knudson, however aside from that a good chunk of the roster is expected to return.

Some of those key players include another lineman, Adrian DeKruyf, along with running back and defensive back Michael Rich. Tight end and linebacker Keegan Myers is also expected back.

It will be a tough task for the Wolves to compete in a challenging conference, however given some time, Lowry can turn this program in the right direction.

The first game of the new era will come on August 25 at home against the Hagerman Pirates.
