Team Preview:
Written by: Matt Harris

The North Fremont Huskies enter the 2017 season with lots of hope and expectations while having to fill several holes due to graduation.

The crew for Ben Lenz, who is entering his sixth season as head coach in Ashton, will lose many key contributors on both sides of the ball, including trigger man Stockton Dye at quarterback, along with the lineman core of Rhet Clark, Brian Huntiger, Gus Henry, Jordan Sharp, and Logan Teske. Running back Shaun Bell has also moved on, leaving gaps to be filled and players rising to the challenge.

While the Huskies lose some firepower, especially on the line, they do bring back a number of players who are poised to have big seasons, including All-State running back Sawyer Dye and All-Conference selections Garrett Hawkes and Blake Oberhansley.

The run-heavy offensive system used by Lenz is a benefit to the Huskies in that they can plug-and-play several kids into different positions with hardly any drop off.

North Fremont will open the season with three of their first four games at home, including the opener on Aug. 25 against Filer. The team then hits the road to face Teton on Sept. 1 before returning back to Ashton with dates against Aberdeen on Sept. 8 and Malad on Sept. 15.

Following a bye week, the Huskies will open their Nuclear Conference slate of games when they travel to Terreton to face the West Jefferson Panthers on Sept. 29. North Fremont then finishes their regular season with two of their final three games at home, including against Salmon on Oct. 6, on the road at Ririe on Oct. 13, and at home at Kandler Field against defending Nuclear Conference champion on Oct. 20.

The success of the Huskies in 2017 will be dependent on how quickly the offensive and defensive lines come together. The quicker they reach that point, the more success they will have in the competitive Nuclear Conference.
