Coaches from Boise State, Idaho State and the College of Idaho will host an online coaches clinic 8 a.m. Saturday via Zoom.

The clinic, organized by Gooding Head Football Coach Cameron Andersen, will aim to fill the void left by the countless coaching clinics normally scheduled for late spring which were canceled due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 in Idaho.

-To attend Saturday’s session, contact Andersen via phone (208-421-4268) or email (cameron.andersen@goodingschools.org).

“There are so many times in the offseason where coaches take the time to improve. We couldn’t do any of them,” Andersen said. “There’s a lot of negativity, a lot of bad things going on. I felt a responsibility to help coaches in this state get better.”

Four coaches from Boise State football will present during Saturday’s sessions, including Bronco alumnus and current wide receivers coach Matt Miller. From Idaho State, Roger Cooper and JB Hall will present on defensive strategies, while receivers coach Chandler Jones will represent the Yotes.

In the wake of the Idaho High School Activities Association cancelling spring athletics, and specific guidelines for fall sports already taking shape, Andersen said traditional networking opportunities just weren’t there for coaches across the state.

But thanks to platforms like Twitter and Zoom, Andersen said he was able to make more meaningful connections during the offseason than ever before.

“I feel like it’s a responsibility to present opportunities like this to our profession,” Andersen said. “This is clinic time. This is when we get better. I feel like I’ve become twice the coach in my ability to grow because I have made so many relationships and connections digitally.”

While the University of Idaho will not be participating in Saturday’s sessions, Andersen said he expects 50 to 100 coaches to participate, with staff from Mountain View, Rocky Mountain, Highland, Kimberly, Minico, Sugar-Salem and South Fremont already confirmed to attend.

To attend Saturday’s session, contact Andersen via phone (208-421-4268) or email (cameron.andersen@goodingschools.org).
