Team Preview

The Liberty Charter Patriots are a young f, yet experienced bunch. They’ll be led by a pair of juniors that were members of the all-conference team last year in guard Erika Linford and five-foot-ten forward Micaela Hulsey.

Joining Linford and Hulsey as returning letter winners are junior Ali Hobson and sophomores Madi Grill and Julia Corkish.

Head Coach Mark Wachsmuth is entering his seventh season with the Patriots, and early on in the pre-season he feels his team will have a balanced attack, along with players that have a lot of experience.

“This year we will have a nice blend of size and speed. We’ll continue to be an up-tempo team looking to beat teams down the floor to score quickly in transition,” Head Coach Mark Wachsmuth said. “We’ll look for Erika Linford to use her speed to set the pace, once we’re in the half-court, I think we have good size that will give us a strong inside game with Hulsey, Corkish, and Hobson all seeing significant playing time last year.”

Filling the void of departed seniors Bailey Magdaleno and Hannah Teraberry from last season be junior guard Lea Cosentino and five-foot-ten senior forward Elizabeth Colbert.

“Last year we had to rely on Bailey Magdaleno to score for us, and I think this year we’ll be much more balanced inside and out,” Wachsmuth said. “Our hope is to have four girls in double figures scoring every night.”

Last season the Patriots streak of four consecutive State Tournament appearances was snapped, but with the experience and leadership of this year’s team they have the tools to make a return.

“I’m excited about having five kids that saw significant varsity time last year as sophomores and freshmen,” Wachsmuth said. “With those five back now as juniors and sophomores along with the two new kinds in Cosentino and Colbert we have a real solid nucleus.”
