The basketball factory at Twin Falls High School continues to create quality basketball players. For the past several years, the Lady Bruins have dominated the Great Basin Conference with their “next man up” philosophy.

However, this season the Bruins might look a little different than in years past. No longer will they ride the shooting of Regan Harr, who graduated last year. Instead they will turn to 2nd team all-conference forward Brooke Swafford. Swafford is going to be the one to stop this year, but for 9th year head coach Nancy Jones, Swafford will hopefully be more of a threat this year.

“She really has been working on being more of a hybrid forward and facing the basket more on the wing,” says Jones.

With the departure of Harr and Madison Ford, the Bruins might be a little thin on the guard line. However, Maddie Aardema looks to give the Bruins that outside touch they are so accustomed to.

“She (Aardema) is a great outside shooter—we will be working to get her more looks than last year.”

The x-factor for the Twin Falls Lady Bruins this year might be the significant size advantage they will have over most of their opponents. Sophomore center, Kennedi Evans, will join seniors Sam Brizzee and Hailey Wright in hopes of creating offensive mismatches and dominating the paint on both the offensive and defensive glass.

For a team that has never won a girls state championship, the goals are lofty every year for the Lady Bruins. Each and every season they seem to be in the conversation as one of the better teams in the 4A ranks. The defending State Champions, the Century Diamondbacks, who might be the odds on favorite in the 4A ranks to win the state title, tangle with the Bruins twice after Christmas break.

Then again, conference rival, the Minico Spartans, might have something to say about Bruins repeating as Great Basin Champions.
