It's become an expectation to see Lighthouse Christian atop the 1AD2 Sawtooth West Conference Standings each year, and until that changes, there is really no reason to change course on that optimism.

However, with an extremely top-heavy conference led by the Lions, Dietrich and Carey, the competition for the crown has become more competitive in the last couple of years. Last season each of the three teams finished with just one conference loss, resulting in a three-way tie at the top.

There was a bit of a talent exodus from Lighthouse Christian due to the graduation of the seniors from last year.

Fortunately for Head Coach Cory Holloway, one of the most explosive players in the state in wide receiver Eric Silva (pictured) is back for another year, which will give the Lions a threat to go deep down the field on any down.

He'll be receiving passes from Connor Bosma, who also earned All-Conference honors at the quarterback position last season.

"Our team speed should be able to stretch the field and make defenses cover the entire field," added Holloway.

That team speed translates over to defense, with most players making an impact on both sides of the ball in the 8-man 1AD2 classification.

The speed leads right into what Holloway says is the strength for the defensive unit.

"Being physical at the line of scrimmage and getting eight white hats to the ball. [Good] team pursuit."

Lighthouse Christian will look to force more turnovers on defense and conversely hope to limit the number of big plays for the opposition, something which hurt the Lions at points last season.

After a one-year hiatus from the state championship game, Lighthouse Christian should be right back in the conversation yet again in 2016. The season will begin on August 26 at home against the reigning 1AD1 State Champion Valley Vikings.
