Vallivue found itself fairly firmly in the middle of the pack in the 4A SIC a year ago, having no problem in matchups with Mountain Home, Ridgevue and Caldwell, but coming up short against top tier conference foes in Skyview, Middleton, Bishop Kelly and Emmett.

The new-look conference this season presents some different challenges, as Skyview moves up to 5A and Kuna, Nampa and Columbia all drop down to join the 4A SIC.

Back for the Falcons at quarterback is junior three year starter Lan Larison, who has built up more experience than just about every other quarterback in the state after starting his first two high school seasons under center.

Two-way playmakers Nick Fox and Gabe Childs have both graduated, leaving gaps on each side of the ball from the running back position and safety spots.

Carson Child should get a heavy dose of the action in the backfield in their place this season, with returner Jayden Moran and newcomer KeyShawn Henry ready to make large impacts from the receiver position.

“Experience should help this year [with] returning players Lan Larison, Daniel Sanchez, Jaxon Northcraft, Joseph Hart, Brad Cushman, Jayden Moran, Carson Child and Tye Lehman,” said 12th year head coach Layne Coffin.

Behind a spread offense, the Falcons will look to improve on their efficiency within the red zone this year to lead to more points.

A strong linebacker core leads the way for the defense, which will operate out of the 3-4 alignment.

“Linebackers Cobe Lehman, Carson Child and Tyler Mansell are all returning, we have experience in the secondary and we have good size up front,” added Coffin.

The emphasis for Vallivue defensively will be to slow down opposing rushing attacks.

Moran, also a cornerback on defense, will play a big role on that side of the ball as the vocal leader of the group.

“Communication is always key. Jayden Moran will have a big role in setting coverages,” said Coffin.

In week one the Falcons travel to Twin Falls to take on the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks. Conference play begins in week two at Bishop Kelly.
