After sticking it out as an independent for the last several seasons, Wallace High School now joins several other teams in the newly formed 1ADI Scenic Idaho Conference.

Coming off a 15-6 overall record during the 2019-2020 season, the Miners are walking into a new season with a fresh group of conference opponents.

Wallace Head Coach Nichole Farkas this year’s team has a large group of juniors that could see a great deal of time on the cour this season. Those players will look to fill the positions left behind by several key players who have moved on due to graduation.

Farkas said former players Sarah Johnson, Megan Morin and Skylar Hill were the core of the team last year.

“We will miss their leadership and speed,” Farkas said.

While Wallace and Lakeside are both new to the Scenic Idaho Conference, the teams have met on the court many times before.

Farkas said matchups with Lakeside are some of the Miners’ most competitive games.

Farkas hopes her team will bring much of last year’s positive plays to the court against teams like Lakeside this season. Last year, the Miners shot the ball well and “were able to get down the floor quickly,” Farkas said.

However, this season, the Miners will look to make strides with more consistency in their rebound game.

With a new season and a new conference starting up in an already atypical school year, Farkas and the Miners are looking to be ready for any and all competition.

“Lakeside is always solid,” Farkas said. “Genesis Prep is rebuilding, so we will see what they have in store for us.”

Moving out of the 1ADII North Star League, the Lakeside High School girls basketball team is moving up a classification but into a smaller lineup of competitors.

During the 2019-2020 season, the Knights posted a 15-6 overall season record. Of that record, all eight conference wins were against former conference competitors such as Clark Fork, Mullan and Kootenai.

The Lakeside High School Girls Basketball Team is once again led by Chris Dohrman.

Joining Wallace and Lakeside, Genesis Prep also moved out of the 1AD2 North Star League and into the 1ADI Scenic Idaho Conference this season.

Last season, the Panthers posted a 0-12 overall record. Of all 12 games, Genesis Prep saw no more than 27 points per game.

After a rather lackluster 2019-2020 season, the Genesis Prep Girls Basketball Team is looking for a fresh start.

Genesis Prep won’t take the court against a conference competitor until meeting up with Lakeside Jan. 15.
