The South Fremont Cougars look to correct mistakes from last season in an attempt to make it back to the playoffs. After a struggling season a year ago, the Cougars have a roster full of returning talent to make a run this winter.

South Fremont brings back seven key two-way players that can help them have a successful 2020 season.

After losing a strong team leader at quarterback in Jace Neville, junior Kaimen Peebles will step in for the Cougars at quarterback.

With the new opportunity at quarterback and a solid receiving core, South Fremont Head Coach Chad Hill is excited to let his playmakers do what they do best.

“We are going to be more of a quick passing game offense,” Hill said. “We have a lot of skill guys and we are going to try to get them the ball in space and let them do work.”

One of those playmakers will be senior wide receiver Dallin Orme, an all-conference first-team member in 2019. Orme looks poised to have another stellar season in 2020, providing a nice safety net for Peebles to be able to throw to.

The quick passing attack that the Cougars are aiming for will play in their favor if the rest of the offense can flow cohesively.

With Peebles needing an adjustment period being the new quarterback in 2020, this can possibly provide less pressure.

Senior running back Jackson Coverley looks to help ease the burden of the Peebles and the Cougar offense as well.

An all-conference second team member from a year ago, Coverley looks to take that next jump during his senior season and possibly find himself on the all-conference first team by the end of the season.

In 2019, the Cougars were a gritty and competitive team but found themselves coming up short when they needed to step up the most.

Last season, South Fremont lost three games by three points or less during the regular season.
If the Cougars found a rhythm late, the playoffs could have been in their sights.

“We have to be able to shut down the run,” Hill said. “We struggled last season against the run and so we have tried to insert a couple of new looks to help us against the run this year.”

According to Hill, some of these ways will include more creative schemes utilizing the returning talent at linebacker and defensive back.

Seniors Bridger Poulsen and Dallin Orme look to have a very promising season playing the two safety positions for the Cougars.

Time will tell if the two dynamic safeties can help provide different looks and packages when trying to find new and creative ways to stop the run game while continuing to shut down the passing game.
