The shot clock.
You may have seen it before when watching the NBA, WNBA or college basketball. You might have even seen it at a high school gym in a small handful of states. After the IHSAA Board Meeting this week, there is a chance you might see the shot clock in Idaho at some point in the coming future.

On May 13, 2021 The National Federation of State High School Associations announced a change in stance regarding the shot clock. For the first time, the use of shot clocks could be used by an individual state association without any type of penalty from the NFHS.

On September 23, 2021 they released shot clock guidelines, including that individual states could implement their use as early as the 2022-2023 school year.

Oregon is considering it. Washington has had it for years. Utah and Montana aren't wasting any time, announcing this week that they will start using the shot clock next school year.

WHAT ABOUT IDAHO?
This week the Idaho High School Activities Association met for their January meeting. After just under 10 minutes of discussion, a motion was unanimously passed to discuss (as a first reading) approval of the shot clock starting with the 2024-2025 school year during the April 2022 meeting.

You can watch the shot clock discussion below.

The archive of the entire board meeting is also available.
