The IHSAA Selects Five Interscholastic Stars
Five Idaho high school juniors have been named as the 2012 recipients of the Interscholastic Star Student Recognition Scholarships, which are awarded, annually by the Idaho High School Activities Association and its official sponsor, The United Dairymen of Idaho.

Five Idaho high school juniors have been named as the 2012 recipients of the Interscholastic Star Student Recognition Scholarships, which are awarded, annually by the Idaho High School Activities Association and its official sponsor, The United Dairymen of Idaho.

Chantell Lowe, Highland-Craigmont High School, Brianna Ballantyne, Kamiah High School, Aimee Wootton, Weiser High School, Brighton Gull, Middleton High School, and Khadija Khan, Capital High School were selected from a field fifty-five outstanding students who were nominated by their school principals.

Other finalists were Danielle Petitmermet, Cambridge High School, Jake Henggeler, New Plymouth High School, Jaren Bean, Sugar-Salem High School, Macee Jo Armstrong, Pocatello High School, and Taylor Hembree, Boise High School.

Nominees for the scholarships are exemplary students who participate in IHSAA-sponsored sports and activities. Each application includes an essay, recommendations from school administrators, description of athletic and activity participation, and service to school and community.

Interscholastic Stars will receive a $1000 scholarship to the college of his/her choice, and will be recognized at the IHSAA Hall of Fame banquet in Boise on August 1. The United Dairymen of Idaho will also contribute $1000 to the recipients’ schools and $500 to the finalists’ schools.

Chantell Lowe, daughter of Luke and Debbie Lowe, participates in volleyball, basketball, track and cross country at Highland (Craigmont) High School. She is also active in cheerleading, choir, FCCLA, BPA, Drama Club, Art Club and 4-H.

Brianna Ballantyne, daughter of Bill Ballantyne, participates in volleyball, basketball and track as well as dance/drill at Kamiah High School. Other activities include National Honor Society, HOSA and Knowledge Bowl as well as numerous community service projects.

Aimee Wootton, daughter of John and Lore Wootton, participates in soccer and softball at Weiser High School, holding leadership positions in all of her activities. Aimee is also a member of Weiser’s marching band, concert band and jazz band along with Key Club, FCA and Student Council.

Brighton Gull, daughter of Scott and Gaigh Gull, participates in volleyball, basketball, track and choir at Middleton High School. She has been involved in student council at Middleton and participates in various community service projects with her church youth group.

Khadija Khan, daughter of Ather and Lori Khan, participates volleyball, soccer, track and choir at Capital High School. She is also active in a variety of leadership groups including National Honor Society and various human rights clubs.
