Team Preview

After one season as Lakeside boys coach, Chris Dohrman switches over to coach the Knight girls this year.

Lakeside's girls finished 11-13 last year, losing by six points to Genesee in a state 1A Division I play-in game. After years of competing against Wallace in that division in District 1, the Knights drop down to 1A Division II this year, where their competition in league is Kootenai, Clark Fork and Mullan.

Lakeside lost a couple of longtime varsity players to graduation off last year's team in Avery Brown-Sonder and Kim Duncan. Among the returnees for the Knights are Talia Hendrickx, Cailyn Dohrman, Shailee Zachary and Jasmine Zahir. Lillian Rhea is one newcomer coach Dohrman said could make a difference.

"As a team, we will try to work inside out," Dohrman said of his team's offensive focus, which includes an emphasis on improved rebounding.

"We have a couple good post players and a few good shooters on the outside."

Defensively, Dohrman said, "We need to get back on defense, maintain ball pressure, contest shots, protect the paint and limit second opportunities. We need to limit unnecessary fouls, block out and rebound, and improve closeouts."

Among Lakeside's nonleague schedule is two games vs. Timberlake, last year's state 3A runner-up, including the season opener Nov. 15 in Plummer. The Knights also have a home-and-home with 2A St. Maries.
