Team Preview:

The Vikings have a healthy chunk of players back from last year's 17-5 team.

Back for Coeur d'Alene is senior Tony Naccarato, a returning all-5A Inland Empire League selection, along with seniors Colby Daniels, Devin Kluss and Elliot Sparks.

Two sophomore newcomers who could make an impact are Joe Naccarato, a 6-3 guard/forward; and Brody Lundblad, a 6-1 guard and son of coach Kurt Lundblad.

The Vikings, who won the 5A IEL title last season, lost a strong scorer and rebounder with the graduation of forward Justin Carpenter.

"We should be a pretty good shooting team," said Lundblad, in his second year as head coach at his alma mater. "The players do a good job of sharing the ball."
Improved help defense is a focus for this year's team, he said.

"Our on-ball defense has been exceptional," Lundblad said. "The players have bought in."

Lundblad said what has him most excited about this team is the "good chemistry; very athletic."

The team motto is "Hard. Smart. Together."

The "X-factor" for the Vikings breaking through and qualifying for state is if the players are "unselfish at both ends of the floor," Lundblad said.

He said he'd also like to see Idaho add a shot clock.
"We need a 24-second clock," he said. "It keeps the pace of play at a high level."

A real estate agent, Lundblad said he enjoys coaching high school basketball because he likes "working with young men, and hopefully being a positive influence on them."

He said he likes coaching at Coeur d'Alene High because of "the support of the administration, students and community are second to none."
