With the graduation of Rex Permann at Rockland and the departure of the Mackay senior class, the 1AD2 District 5-6 Conference is wide-open this season.

The North Gem Cowboys lost a couple key players of their own in Jay Sievers on the interior and Tucker Lish, who was one of the primary scorers. What new Head Coach Kevin McLain does inherit however is a great trio of players that should keep North Gem competitive on a nightly basis.

That trio is led by big man Karson Lloyd, a dynamic player who is tough to handle inside, but can also pop out for jump shots to keep defenses off-balance.

Jensen and Davids will be the starters at the guard positions, with Jensen expected to essentially step into Lish’s shoes. Davids, the quarterback of the football team, has a different role on the basketball team, as he will handle shooting guard duties and be expected to fill up the stat sheet.

“We have good size and talent this year with Karson Lloyd, Walker Davids, and Tyler Perkins,”said McLain.

A couple key newcomers will also be important to the success of the Cowboys.

“Dallin Lloyd, a senior, sat out last year and will be a great addition to the team once again. Stele Parker should [also] have a break out season,” added McLain.

The youth is important in the long and short term in Bancroft.

“I need to have younger players step up this year and push for playing time,” said McLain.

There is plenty to be excited about on the hardwood this winter for North Gem.

“I am looking forward to the talent we have this year and I should be able to play 8-9 players every ballgame,” said McLain. “This team has a great group of young men who are dedicated and hard-working.”
