Team Preview:

Written by: David Bashore

A rough season greeted Salmon in 2014-15, as the Savages won just two of their 21 games. The Savages will lean on those experiences, though, as they enter 2015-16 under new coach Stephen Fisher.

Salmon has five players returning, three of them seniors: guard Justin Sharp, swingman Clay Cockrell and forward Blake Barney. Junior guard Justin Sharp and sophomore guard Sam Petty also come back.

The Savages have balance on the floor, though they need to better utilize that this season, Fisher says, through increased ball movement and off-ball activity, which should lead to higher-percentage shots if the team remains patient.

Defensively, communication and quicker rotation will lead to more improvement. Fisher says there’s a lot of team speed this season, which will permit Salmon to operate at a quicker pace, and there is a nice mix of youth and experience in this squad.

Limiting second-chance points was an issue last season, and one that he thinks can be rectified to great effect in 2015-16.
