Sometimes at the 1A level in Idaho one or two dominant players can push a team to the next level.

For Hagerman and new Head Coach Victor Arreaga in the coming season, the team might have just that in freshman center Braidee Tate. When asked what the x-factor was going to be to have a successful season, Tate was brought up.

“[It’s] the development of freshman Braidee Tate,” said Arreaga. “He could be a very dominant big man on both sides of the ball.”

After not having much height the past couple seasons, Tate is a welcome sign for the Pirates. He’ll be complimented on floor with the outside duo of Tristan Gilbert and Daniel Dailey.

According to Arreaga, Hagerman will need to work on shot selection after struggling to find the basket at points last season on the way to a 4-16 finish. The Pirates will attempt to accomplish this by sharing the ball and scoring as a committee.

With new faces on the floor and the sideline, Hagerman hopes to make strides in the tough 1AD1 Snake River Conference.

“It’s a fresh beginning for myself and the players,” stated Arreaga. [Let’s] have some fun!”

Expect to see an exciting style of play with the new leadership, featuring an up-tempo offense and an attacking defensive effort.

If the Pirates can force turnovers and find better shots on the other end the team could make major improvements in the win-loss column this season.

With Tate available in the paint it will be key to find ways to get him the ball in positions to succeed
