After a 19-win season and the District III championship, Cole Valley Christian looks poised to take the next step in its build toward becoming a 2A state championship contender in 2015-16. The Chargers lose district player of the year Madison Holly and a four-year contributor in Danika Langley, but they have plenty returning from last season’s team to build for a title run in February.

Cole Valley Christian returns first-team all-conference honoree Lindy Westendorf, the team’s captain and undisputed leader. She’ll be listed as a post but can handle just about any role on the floor. Behind her is a stable of quality athletes led by returning all-conference honorees Miriam Edes and Holly Golenor, the latter of whom made the all-conference roster as a freshman. Golenor and Westendorf should provide one of the more potent one-two post punches in the division.

Another one to watch for the Chargers could be Julia Branahl. She played limited minutes as a freshman last season but was called upon to shoulder a big load off the bench in the state tournament and sparked the team to the consolation trophy.

Cole Valley Christian’s big push in 2015-16 is chemistry and intangibles. The Chargers have a heavy junior class that will need to step up in the leadership department, but the team has played together for a long time and complement that continuity with athleticism and balance. The game plan won’t change much – points in the paint and rebounding, but transition offense and ball pressure will add a new dimension to the team’s makeup, if those categories can improve this season.
