Team Preview

The Burley Bobcats might be the most interesting team in the Great Basin Conference this year.

Under 6th year head coach, Roger Caresia, the Lady Cats will not only rely and senior superstar, Kortney Hutchinson, but they’ll be suiting up a myriad of sophomores and a freshman in hopes of getting quality minutes.

Gone are Mireay Villaneuva and Baylee Robins so Burley will lean heavily on Hutchinson who burst on to the scene as a sophomore in the State Basketball tournament. Thus far, she is real deal—shooter, penetrator, defender, and leader.

However, she won’t be able to do it alone so Caresia will need senior Sydney Pilling and junior Hallie Cook to elevate their games and hopefully become the three headed monster in which opposing teams will have to game plan.

When the Great Basin teams talk about the Lady Bobcats, one word used to describe them is “tough.” Burley has always been one of the most physical teams in the conference and that style of play has given other teams fits over the years. Burley’s dominance on the boards helps facilitate that style of play and according to Coach Caresia, it is one of the focal points of his teams.

Minico and Twin Falls might be the early season favorites to win the conference, but if Burley can continue to improve, stay healthy, and get quality minutes from their young players, the Lady Cats could surprise some people at the end of the season.
