Team Preview

Written by David Bashore

Post Falls doesn’t return a ton of experience from last year; the Trojans have two sophomores back, guard Bailey Brennan and forward Melody Kempton, who was the conference MVP as a freshman last season. Joining them is senior Kennady McComb, but that’s about it as far as experienced players in the Post Falls system go. Newcomers include seniors Aubre Johnson and Charissa Johnson, and sophomore Abby Gennett.

Offensively earlier in the season it’ll fall to Brennan and Kempton to carry the offensive load while others acclimate to the system. Aubre Johnson, a transfer from out-of-state, and a clutch of players over 6 feet tall should help provide some balance.

Defensively the Trojans should be fairly deep and covered with smart, quick guards and tall, physical forwards. That allows for balance, as well as on-ball pressure and – they hope – turnovers that allow them to run in transition.

It’ll be a growing process for Post Falls, but the junior varsity team went 17-3 last season. A lot of those players are on varsity now and if they can adapt quickly to the speed and physical play of varsity ball in the Inland Empire League, the Trojans should be right in the mix.
