Within the 4A Great Basin (West) Conference the past few seasons the Burley Bobcats have shown they are a forced to be reckoned with.

Under the tutelage of Head Coach Roger Caresia the Bobcats have made it to state each of the past three seasons, including a 17-11 mark last year which included winning a game over Sandpoint in the Real Dairy Shootout.

Some of the top players from that team have departed including Chelsee Baker, a player who was instrumental in the success of the program over the past few seasons.

Fortunately for Burley, plenty of talent does return along with some key newcomers who should receive plenty of playing time this season.

Aside from matchups with Twin Falls last year, the eventual state runner-ups, the Bobcats had their way within conference action, only falling to one other conference team by a score of 34-30 to Jerome in early January.

A trio of players will be relied upon to try and get the squad back to the Treasure Valley for the fourth year in a row this season.

Kortney Hutchison, Baylee Robins and Mireya Villanueva will all be asked to step into larger roles to fill the shoes of the now departed Baker and others.

Expect the Bobcats to take advantage of their team speed by playing a high-intensity style on both sides of the floor.

Offensively Burley will play a quick tempo style as they try to outrun the opposition. The hope is that this will lead to plenty of opportunities for easy baskets in the open floor.

On the other end Caresia will instruct his girls to apply pressure defense whenever the chance presents itself, forcing teams into turnovers and helping to keep the tempo high on both ends.

The coach has a couple of talented newcomers ready to step in and help the Bobcats out this season.

He mentioned Hallie Cook and Sydney Pilling as the key newcomers to watch in the upcoming season.

Early in the season it will be important for Burley to find out which players will step up and lead the productivity of the bench when they are called upon in relief of what is a fairly experienced starting five.

If the Bobcats are able to find some depth to help out their returning players they should be able to contend for a spot in the 4A state tournament again this time around.
