Team Preview

One season after winning the state 1A Division I championship, the Kubs slipped to a 1-18 record last year.

Head coach Jim Engledow is looking to rebuild around Sam Jenner, a 5-foot-6 senior, and a trio of juniors -- 5-8 Kareena Stamper, 5-6 Belen Pineda and 5-6 Desirae Nasura.
Patience, consistency and handling the pressure are points of emphasis this season, said Engledow, whose previous coaching experience includes 15 years at the junior high level.

"We definitely have some speed that we need to take advantage of," he said.

With quickness being a team strength on defense, Engledow said he'd like to be able to "apply more pressure for an entire game."

He said his team's youth, quickness and enthusiasm has him excited for the season.

The key to the Kubs' season, Engledow said, is "patience on offense, and taking advantage of our speed by applying pressure on defense."

The top two teams in the 1A Division I District 2 tournament advance to state. The third-place finisher can make it there through the play-in route.
