Team Preview

Written by: David Bashore

A 12-10 season is pretty good by most basketball measurements when it comes to gauging progress toward greater things. For Grace, however, an uptick in wins won’t matter much in the chase for a playoff berth if it isn’t paired with eclipsing the two perennial state powers in its own conference, Butte County and Challis.

The positive for the Grizzlies in 2015-16 is that they return their entire roster from last season, including all-conference honorees Kyrie Christensen and Brook Mathews. Briston Kap is another key player back for another season, hoping to key Grace past its conference rivals to the lone state tournament berth to come from the combined district.

Grace should have the edge out of the gate when it comes to victories, playing a good schedule but having the continuity of a season ago. But everything is geared toward the conference schedule at the back end of the season. The Grizzlies play their full conference schedule in the space of five games, including back-to-back games with Butte County just six days apart.
