New first year coach, new league, new level. Coeur d’Alene Charter will be faced with new challenges this season. Coach Steven Zamora will be taking the reins this season and is very familiar with the program and players and he was promoted from serving as the JV coach.

The only area not new are the six returning players that Coach Zamora has this season. Taking the leap up in classifications will be no easy task. Coeur d’Alene Charter must be ready to take on the challenges of the likes of Kellogg, Timberlake, Bonners Ferry, and Priest River.

If Coach Zamora and his squad are successful, everyone must buy into the team concept and play for each other. Zamora believes the have the pieces to “create one cohesive unit”, but it will take some time. Finishing 4-16 last season at a lower level and now making the jump up will take time, but he is very excited to see the fundamental improvements and appreciates how coachable each player has been.

For this team, it all begins and ends with their approach and work habits in practice in becoming the team needed to compete together. They have a solid until returning that are very speedy and can set the tempo but they must increase their production through more motion, more cuts, and more screens. When the movement comes and the spacing is established, there will be better shot selection and more offensive rebounding opportunities. These are the important areas for Coach Zamora. Defensively, the message is more simple. To become one, they must be willing to communicate and box out and rebound.

The challenges are there facing this squad and this coach. The goal is to build and improve throughout the season growing and competing together. Watch this team come together and get it going hitting on all cylinders when they take on Timberlake towards the end of the regular season.
