It’s a “new era of excitement,” for Emmett.

The moto fits the team well as Emmett will move up a classification form 3A to 4A and will usher in a new head coach in David Dust.

This will be Dust’s first head coaching gig as Dust was an assistant at Centennial, Borah, Boise Meridian, Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland prior to arriving at Emmett where he coached in the lower levels.

Dust walked-on at Boise State where he was a member 1992-93 men’s basketball Big Sky championship team.

He inherits a 14-11 Emmett program that went two-and-out in the 3A state tournament last season.

This season, Emmett will be 4A and will be without Sage Wilkerson who graduated last season.

But Emmett does return DJ Crump, Jordan Gleim, Cole Elliot, Luc Overton and Spencer Keene, which will provide the Huskies with some experience.

New addition Max Gleim will replace the lost senior in the rotation.

As Dust is an in-house hire and knows the strengths and weaknesses of this Emmett team.

Coaching in the lower levels means he knows the team inside-out as he has coached all of these kids before when they came up through the ranks of the program.

The Huskies will play a fast offensive style that will look to use its experience to its advantage.

Shooting the basketball is something that Dust hopes to see improved, as shooting the outside shot and free throw percentage have proven to be problematic in the past.

Defensively, the Huskies will look to use that same speed and experience to their advantage, but as is the case with smaller lineups, rebounding may be an issue.

Getting back to the state tournament will be a tougher road this season. As a 4A, Emmett now find themselves in the same conference as 4A powerhouse Bishop Kelley.

Teams will be faster, bigger and smarter in 4A and it is up to Dust to prepare his kids for the challenge.
