The moto for Nampa High School is to win the day and with a young cast of players, the team will have to believe they can compete to have a successful 2016-17 season.

The Bulldogs went 9-13 last year, five of which came in conference play as Nampa will return two starters from that team in senior point guard Jon Attaway and junior forward Josue Siguenza.

The Bulldogs did not have any players who earned All-Conference honors last season and most of the players at the varsity and junior varsity will be made up of sophomores and freshmen.

Third year head coach Trevor Morris is tasked with making this young team believe in themselves.

“We’ll be successful once we start to believe that we can and deserve to be,” Morris said.

The Bulldog offense averaged 38.5 points per game and failed to elapse 30 points four times, but with a new cast of young talent, Morris is looking to change that this season.

Newcomers such as sophomore Ryan Zheng and forward Justin Radford along with senior forward Hayden Woolstenhulme, the Bulldogs run a slow-paced offense where the goal is to move the ball around, waiting for a good shot selection to arise.

Forcing shots means the offense won’t work, the key concept for this young Nampa team will be staying patient. The key for Morris, is getting his antsy young players to comply with the strategy.

“We have to stay engaged and opportunistic when you don’t have the ball in your hands,” Morris said.

Defensively, according to Morris, the Bulldogs need to defend more as a team, help defense and rebounding will be key to success.

Last season, the Bulldogs gave up an average of 49 points, but only managed to score over 49 points seven times.
