The Kamiah Kubs are in an interesting predicament this season. The Kubs graduated everyone except one from last season. That player transferred to Orofino. A player who saw some time floating, Luke Snyder, suffered an injury during football and the Kubs hope to have him back late season if possible. Their coach moved to Potlatch and took over that program.
No coach, no returning players. What is in store for Kub fans and who is going to take over this program? Can they be successful?
These questions will be answered soon enough. If there is one person capable to take on this challenge, it is first year coach Abraham Broncheau. Broncheau is switching from coaching the Kamiah girls to the boys this season. Last season with the girls, Broncheau had his team ready and qualifying for the District tournament. He did a remarkable job preparing and improving the girls program, building it up from the ground up.
Coach Broncheau is faced with a roster full of first time varsity players and doesn’t have any doubt that this season will be fun and exciting. Broncheau will be coaching newcomers junior point guard Tyrel Henry, junior guard Kaleb Oatman, senior post Chris Olive, and currently injured junior guard Luke Snyder.
Henry has speed and the coach will be asking for him to score more this season, while balancing facilitating with finding scoring opportunities. Oatman brings the toughness and the ability to finish around the basket. Was it mentioned that he can shoot from the outside as well? That he can. Olive will bring the senior leadership role and the man inside the paint. Snyder, upon his return, will contribute with the perimeter shooting and bring the presence on defense.
“This team has great chemistry, court awareness, aggressiveness, and unselfishness,” says Coach Broncheau. “There are times in practice I have to tell them that was one too many passes. Sharing won’t be a problem with this group.”
