Team Preview

Plenty of talent is back in Arimo after a great showing in 2015/2016, which has the Eagles once again a favorite to head back to the state tournament and make some noise.

In what was a loaded 3A field last season, Marsh Valley came out as the runner-ups, coming up short in the state championship matchup with Timberlake.

While dominant center Katie Anderson has graduated, leaving a potential hole in the rebounding and low-post scoring department, everyone else is back to help mitigate the loss.

Anderson was arguably the most dominant player at her position throughout last year for the classification, so it will be a challenge, but Head Coach Kyle McQuivey has to still be thrilled he has as much back as he does.

Senior guard McKenzie Gunter has plenty of weapons around her including Paige Vorwaller and Taya Batts down-low and Lindsi Nichols on the outside.

With Anderson gone, Batts will have to do a better job of staying out of foul trouble, something which plagued the forward in her first season for the Eagles.

Offensively it is a well-rounded unit.

"All players have ball handling skills, speed and shooting [ability]," said McQuivey.

He hopes to see fewer turnovers and an improved performance finishing close to the basket.

The quickness seen on offense translates to the other side of the ball where Marsh Valley can get into passing lanes and lead to easy baskets. It was one of the staples of last year's team and should be expected to be once again.

McQuivey has one big thing he is most excited about with this group.

"The attitude and strive the girls have to finish."

After coming so close last year, the Eagles will need to dig deep to get back to the title game come February, but Marsh Valley does have enough pieces on the floor to make a run at it
