Joining the Whitepine League for the first time, led by second year head coach Jared Young, the Wallace Miners look to make some noise this season and look to get back to the post season again this year. Wallace is somewhat familiar with the Whitepine as they have played a Whitepine member in the first round the past four years.

Looking to get of quickly, Coach Young is looking to run first with adding a West Coast style passing game. But, the first hurdle will be replacing a 1300 yard rusher in Mitch Millard. Junior Jaden Dimitroff will be the first running back called upon to fill the large hole. Coach Young believes Dimitroff is up to the challenge and the Miners won’t miss a beat. The run first style helps the Miners with ball control and utilizing the clock, making opposing defenses fatigued especially late in games.

The Miners will be looking to catch the defenses sleeping with the West Coast passing game.

“We need to improve our passing attack and utilize more formations to get the ball to more of our playmakers,” states Young.
Signal caller, Zayne Hunter will be looking to sling the ball around the field to receivers Matt Farkas and Zack Welch.

With a solid core of linebackers and a senior led defensive line, the Miners will use their attack style of defense to pressure quarterbacks and force them to beat them by making tough throws under pressure. Coach Young hopes this style will increase their sack total and lead to more turnovers.

According to Young, “On both sides of the ball there can be no excuses. We must win our individual battles on each play and be more mentally tough.” He is also interested to see how his team handles the adversity of travel and a new league and see their willingness to rise to each challenge throughout the year.

Travel will be a major hurdle on the road, but an advantage at home. They open up against Clearwater Valley at Moscow in the Kibbie Dome Sept. 2, which is the mid-way point between the two schools. The Miners will be traveling at a minimum 2 hours to play Potlatch and closer to 4 hours to Cottonwood to play Prairie. The flip side, opponents like Kamiah, Lapwai, and Troy will be making long treks up north.

The Whitepine is looked at as the toughest league at the 1A D1 level. The Miners and Coach Young look to crash the party in their inaugural season.
