Greenleaf Friends Academy’s goals in 2015-16 are modest, but ones the Grizzlies view as attainable. The team hasn’t gotten into the district tournament’s main bracket in several years, so it would like to earn a home district tournament play-in game, and then win that game to achieve this particular goal.

The Grizzlies should have the returning quality to make their best case for that achievement. They return six players, including senior forwards Cade Metcalf and Ben Stinson, along with guard Justin Kelly. Three juniors – guard Ezra Carson, center Cody Reid and forward Graham Kelly – will complement the senior experience, and freshman guards Coleton and Garrett Sedlacek could rise up and provide competition as well.

Offensively Greenleaf will stick to the basics, working hard on the little things to provide structure and consistency to its game. The goal is to play to its athletic strengths and make sure the opposing defenses have no easy possessions every night.

Defensively the Grizzlies lack overall size but have good speed and quickness across the roster. Wisdom in when to use that speed and athleticism and keeping it under control will be the biggest key to success, along with a commitment to pressure and intensity no matter the situation.

This squad is coachable and determined to succeed, first-year coach Jeff Metcalf says. Keeping that attitude up all season and focusing on doing the next right thing will lead the Grizzlies to a higher level in the 2015-16 season: a level they hope leads to at least a district tournament berth
