The Spartans had a rough season last year. They only won three out of sixteen contests, however there was not one senior on last season’s roster.

An inexperienced group last season, the Spartans struggled mightily to score points, only managing an average of 43 points per game. That will certainly change this season. What was a young inexperienced bunch, is now a seasoned group of veterans.
Led by big man Colby Lineberry, the Spartans will look to get the ball down low early and often.

“Our offense will revolve around penetration and good post play from our big guys especially Colby,” said head coach John Bower.
Bower, now entering his third season, looks to have the set to win some games in 2015-2016.

“I’m excited that our entire team except for one person is coming back for this year,” Bower explained. “Continuity should be a strength.”

The one player that the Spartans lost was due to a move.

In addition to Loneberry, Timberline will also return Trevon Willis, Chase Brouers, Jared Durgan and Tristen Bonner, all of which will play key roles in the offense this season. The X-Factor for Timberline will be these five guys playing together as a team instead of five individual players.

Areas where the Spartans struggled last season were shot selection, lack of sharing the basketball and turnovers. That should not be an issue this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Spartans must improve on rebounds.

“Our team defense has improved immensely each year,” coach Bower stated. “I am hoping and counting on continued growth in this area.”

Growth was the theme of last season. Playing the underdog role, 1A D2 schools must be on the lookout because the Spartans may be the most improved team in the conference.
