Team Preview:

Written by David Bashore

Marsing was a young team in 2014-15, taking some lumps as it mustered just six wins.

However, the Huskies have plenty of players returning and another year in the system to build on that and have a more successful time out in 2015-16.The Huskies have four returning players, headlined by first-team all-conference selection Jose Ponce, a junior guard-forward. Also returning are junior guards Dakota Hardy and Nick Lankow, as well as senior guard Rodrigo Acuna.

The squad has good collective team speed and will look to complement that speed with discipline at the offensive end of the floor. With all five starters returning, a greater understanding of the offensive system is a given, and confidence should come with that. The hope is familiarity won’t lead to carelessness and turnovers, however, so ball security is a point of emphasis.

Marsing offers solid perimeter defending that’s both intense and disciplined. That helps make up for ageneral lack of size and depth in the post. Rebounding technique and good defense, the Huskies hope, will lead to limiting opposing offenses to one shot per trip down the floor.

Third-year coach Tim little says his bunch loves to play basketball and is extremely coachable, beginning to demand more from its collective self. With another year of familiarity in Little’s system –most of the players in the program have only known his system at the high school level – the hallmarks are there for an improved season in 2015-16
