Coming off a standout 2019-2020 season, the Lakeside High School boys basketball team is ready for another year of wins.

Shelling out a tight win against Cascade with a score of 73-68, Lakeside won its first state tournament championship since 1997 last season.

But with a new conference and a new set of conference competitors, change is already underway in an already unprecedented school year. However, Head Coach James Twoteeth and his team are ready to take on whatever the 2020-2021 season throws their way.

The Knights join the 1ADI Scenic Idaho Conference this year after leaving the 1ADII North Star League due to an increase in enrollment at Lakeside High School.

Talon Twoteeth and Emmit White are two players that have moved on due to graduating but will be missed on the court this season.

Lakeside’s key returners include senior center Darren Higgins, senior Kenyon Spottedhorse, senior Jayson Hall, senior Jasper Abuan and sophomore Vander Brown.

Although it will be difficult to replicate the immense success the Knights had last season, Twoteeth said he hopes many of this year’s players step into larger roles.

“It will be tough to replicate that season, but I look for a great year this year as well,” Twoteeth said.

Twoteeth and the team are most excited for this season’s St. Maries matchup.

“We will play st maries for the first time in a long time,” Twoteeth said. “We are very close to them but we haven't played them at all. Should be interesting and a good matchup for us.”

Coming off a 10-11 overall record during the 2019-2020 season, the Wallace High School boys basketball team will look to advance more this season with new conference opponents.

Wallace leaves an independent 1ADII conference for the 1ADI Scenic Idaho Conference due to a larger school enrollment this year.

Once again led by Head Coach Corey Miller, the Miners take on Lakeside and Genesis Prep during conference play this season. Wallace lost all games played against Lakeside and Genesis Prep last season.

Genesis Prep also posted a similar record to Wallace with a 9-9 overall record during the 2019-2020 season.

Coming off back-to-back state tournament titles in 2017 and 2018, the Panthers couldn’t find their way back to the winner’s bracket the last several seasons. However, with a new conference and a smaller group of conference competitors, the Panthers will look to recapture the successes of several years ago.

In all three games against Lakeside during the 2019-2020 season, the Panthers couldn’t quite find their footing on the court and lost to the Knights in each matchup.

Genesis Prep moved from the 1ADII North Star League into the newly formed 1ADI Scenic Idaho Conference this year.
