Listen to the weekly Idaho 8-Man PrepCast

After another great weekend of small school football action I had another strong - strong - batch to select from.

1. Jrew Plocher, Watersprings
195 rushing yards and 5 TDs, 157 passing yards and 2 TDs (on 3 completions) in win over Mackay.

2. Caleb Ball, Mullan/St. Regis
255 yards passing (4TD), 47 yards rushing (1TD), 1 INT (TD) in win over Lakeside.

3. Colten Meyer, Horseshoe Bend
253 yards passing (4TD), 124 yards rushing (1TD), team-high 13 tackles in win over Notus

Honorable Mention
Carlos Larias (Shoshone)
Justice Schrader (Glenns Ferry)
Dallas Morgan (Kendrick)
Bry Severe (Oakley)
Angus Jordan (Genesee)
Tyler Howard (Potlatch)
Kaedan Clemens (Notus)
Tyler Wanstrom (Butte County)
Junior Benites (Murtaugh)
Connor Simpson (Carey)
Colton Sams (Kamiah)
Titus Yearout (Lapwai)
Dylan Pickering (Clearwater Valley)
Brody Hasselstrom (Prairie)

We knew coming in to the season that Connor Simpson from Carey, Brody Hasselstrom from Prairie, and Mullan/St. Regis's Adam Ball could probably be one of the "3 Stars" every week and it wouldn't really be a stretch. Fabulous players.

Two that maybe we *didn't* see coming? Genesee QB/DB Angus Jordan and Murtaugh RB/DB Junior Benites. Both have been off-the-charts good through three weeks.

Both have a chance to really make a statement (for themselves and their teams) over their next two games: Genesee plays at Clearwater Valley and at Lapwai, Murtaugh hosts Castleford and plays at Oakley. Four strong opponents.

Agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comments!

Don't overlook 1 A ever again please.... thank you
I know everyone loves to watch the big dogs play ball time and time again and few people watch and appreciate 8 man football for what it is and produces. Some of the best high school players from the state of Idaho in recent years who went on not just to college but great success and NFL success as well doing outstanding things didn't come from big schools you might hear like Highland or Rigby or Rocky MT or Borah or Eagle, Middleton, Fruitland etc... No, these few great Idaho HS football athletes came from small schools and rural schools and 1 As schools... People love Boise state football as a powerhouse underdog team; yet keep loving 4 and 5 A schools for football quality and entertainment as If anyone has done what Leighton vandereisch or Shea McClellan has done in recent history both walking on at boise state because they played for overlooked HS teams from Marsing and Riggins. They turned into all time boise state football Greats and went onto first round NFL picks, which is amazing in itself and then onto play for the bears, cowboys and patriots and win a super bowl even. I know the details, but it still baffles me how idiotic people in Idaho are when they belittle, ignore, and tease 1A HS fb schools when they have produced the best football talent Idaho has to offer in recent years and world wide famous achievements. I also forgot to mention ... Matt Paradis from council, Idaho. Amazing high school team when he played and priveledge to watch like these other guys. He still had to earn his way up at Boise state and eventually got to show his hard work and talent on the big stage and was drafted by the Denver broncos and won super bowl 50 with them as their starting center with Payton manning of all people. went onto play for the panthers as well later on getting paid for his work. again, council, Idaho 1A D2. I realize not everyone has the passion and physical gifts to achieve such dreams and success but so many try and fail at the bigger schools in Idaho high school football.. try looking local and smaller; and you may be surprised what catches your eye and see maybe again years down the road. PS. recent stars I've seen but won't be famous for size issues... AJ Castellanos from wilder, Idaho 8 years ago and the Sedlachec twins from Greenleaf and wilder later only 2 years ago... Amazing to watch and once in a generation talents but the college game didn't fit with their small stature. Still didn't keep them from proving what they had and only fell short in the playoffs their teams losing to the evetual state champs with better teams. Small school high school football in Idaho is always a pleasure to watch even if not all games are what you expect when you think of quality , entertaining football games. peace.
