Throughout Oakley's recent run of 1AD1 football dominance, one thing has become clear:

If you're going to beat the Hornets, you'll have to be able to outscore them.

Not many have been able to outscore Oakley (10-1) over the years.  You can now add Grace (9-2) to the list of teams that have tried, as the Hornets defeated the Grizzlies 58-20 in the 1AD1 state championship game on Thursday night at Holt Arena.

The Hornets zipped out to a 16-0 lead after one quarter of play, as Porter Pickett threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Cranney and IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Bry Severe scored on a one-yard run.

Grace battled back in the second quarter, though, as quarterback Tytan Anderson scored on a 15-yard run to bring the Grizzlies to within 14-6.

Right after Anderson's score, though, Pickett found Bridger Duncan for a touchdown and a 24-6 advantage.

Grace answered with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Anderson to Brennan Sorenson, making the score 24-14 at halftime.

Severe put the game to bed in the third quarter, though, taking the opening kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown and scoring on a 21-yard run to extend the Oakley lead to 38-14.

In the fourth quarter, Pickett threw a 30-yard touchdown to Duncan and Ethan Toribau scored on a seven-yard run for Oakley.

Grace's final score came on a 15-yard TD pass from Anderson to Sorenson.
