CENTRAL IDAHO CONFERENCE

Kellogg 52, Orofino 0

Radley McDonald returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and the Wildcats (1-1, 1-4) rolled from there, picking up their first win of the season.  Orofino remains winless at 0-1 in CIL play and 0-3 overall.  Reed Whatcott threw six touchdown passes for Kellogg, including four to Coleman Blalack.  Jaeger Hall and Wyatt Storey also caught TDs.

WESTERN IDAHO CONFERENCE

Marsing 24, New Plymouth 14

Marsing (1-0, 4-1) put the clamps down on an explosive New Plymouth (0-1, 3-2) offense, mimicking their head coach, former NFL linebacker Shea McClellin.  The Huskies held Pilgrims quarterback Colton Frates to 5-of-18 passing for just 82 yards and a touchdown to Derrik Walker.  Marsing’s Jace Chadez, meanwhile, was 7-of-12 for 113 yards and a score to Cache Hance.  Each team ran the ball well, as New Plymouth’s Payton Travis had 128 yards and a TD, while Marsing’s Xon Fleary ran for 143 yards and a score.

Nampa Christian 17, Cole Valley Christian 13

Cole Valley Christian (0-1, 2-3) tried to rally late, but Nampa Christian’s (1-0, 3-2) 17-7 fourth quarter lead ultimately held up in the WIC opener for both teams.  Aiden Thompson threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns to lead Nampa Christian, while also rushing for 57 yards and a TD.  For good measure, Thompson drilled a 28-yard field goal.  Ben Beglinger scored on a short touchdown run to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead, and a pair of field goals brought them to within 17-13 in the fourth.  Cole Valley twice had opportunities to take the lead, but the Chargers muffed a punt with just over two minutes to play, and then Nampa Christian’s Hunter Hafer came away with an interception with just over a minute remaining to seal the win.

SOUTH EAST IDAHO CONFERENCE

West Side 42, Bear Lake 7

After Bear Lake (0-1, 2-3) defeated West Side (1-0, 3-1) twice last year (once to win the regular season conference title, once in the 2A semifinals), it’s safe to say that the South East Idaho Conference belongs to the Pirates once again.  West Side rushed for 337 yards in the victory.  Moser led the way with 144 yards and a touchdown, and returned the game’s opening kickoff 92 yards for a score.  Colten Gundersen added 69 yards and a TD, while Crew Sage rushed for 68 yards and two scores.  Bear Lake scored on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Rhett Lloyd to Levi Stonehouse.

Malad 16, Soda Springs 6

Soda Springs (0-2, 0-5) struck first with just over a minute remaining before halftime, when Trey Dunford threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Kayden Peterson.  But Malad (1-0, 4-2) outscored the Cards 16-0 in the second half of play.  Quarterback Braylen Tripp scored on a two-yard run and also ran in the conversion to put the Dragons ahead 8-6 in the third.  Malad then found more breathing room with a one-yard run from Ryan Hubbard in the fourth quarter.

NUCLEAR CONFERENCE

North Fremont 38, West Jefferson 6

North Fremont (1-0, 4-1) scored five rushing touchdowns in their Nuke Conference opener against West Jefferson (0-1, 0-5).  Andrew Martin scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Jacob Hill, Jed Hill and Carson Packer all found the end zone as well.

NON-CONFERENCE

Timberlake 56, St. Maries 14

Class 3A Timberlake (4-2) showed off its rushing prowess once again, as Cooper Lenz rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on just ten carries.  Vaughn Higgins (47 yards), Caius Tebbe (40), Cayden Knight (38) and Jonathan Hansen (25) all scored a rushing touchdown, as well.  Cole Meidinger threw a pair of TD passes to Jacob Yetter, as well.  Class 2A St. Maries (1-4) scored on a 20-yard pass from Jack Barta to Julien Ceja-Grimaldo and a one-yard run by Trey Gibson.

Vale (OR) 37, Melba 12

The Mustangs (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season on the road against perennial Oregon power Vale.

Declo 50, Gooding 0

Class 2A Declo (5-0) held a slim 8-0 lead over Class 3A Gooding (1-4) midway through the second quarter, thanks to a rushing touchdown from quarterback Will Garrard.  In the blink of an eye, the Hornets led 29-0 at halftime thanks to a 38-yard punt return TD from Gavin Rasmussen, a touchdown pass from Garrard to Max Snedaker, and another TD run from Garrad.  The Hornets cruised from there to the non-conference win.

Wendell 35, Filer 7

Jesse Chavez rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns as Class 2A Wendell (4-2) romped to a win over Class 3A Filer (0-5).  Alex Hirai completed 13-of-19 passes for 192 yards and two TDs, while Mikey Talbert caught five passes for 132 yards and both scores.  Defensively, Wyett Oden registered nine tackles and an interception, while Ethan Olander came away with two picks.
