Fast Start

Genesee opened Saturday's key 1A Whitepine game against Lewis County with an early offensive touchdown.  The Bulldogs followed it up with a surprise onside kick, recovered it, and scored quickly once again.  At that point, the Bulldogs went with another onside kick and, again, recovered it.  When Genesee punched in a third touchdown with just under three minutes left in the first quarter, the Bulldogs led 22-0, and Lewis County's offense hadn't touched the ball yet.  Genesee used the fast start to upend the Eagles, 56-24, to improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Whitepine play.

"Wow" Factor

In the second quarter of his team's non-conference win in Idaho City on Friday, Challis' Teage Erickson made a play that caught everyone's attention.  The senior skied high into the air to make a remarkable one-handed, fingertip catch near the Idaho City sideline.  After landing on his feet, he zigged his way across the field toward the Challis sideline, then turned around and zagged all the way back across to the Idaho City sideline, where he was finally tackled.  In total, Erickson likely ran nearly 70 yards, dodging several tackles, for about a nine-yard gain.  Erickson's team ultimately lost the game, but his catch and ensuing run caused multiple players on the Idaho City sideline to turn to each other and say, "wow."

...From The Jaws Of Defeat

Raft River was less than ten seconds away from a loss Friday night on the road in Murtaugh, trailing 20-12.  But McCoy Spencer and Chase Boden breathed life into the visitors from Malta with a touchdown pitch-and-catch before Ruger Ward ran in the game-tying two-point conversion with just seconds left in regulation.  Then, in overtime, Spencer hit Ren Udy with the go-ahead TD and ran in the conversion.  The Trojans' defense made one final stop to secure the heart-stopping, 28-26, overtime victory to improve to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the Snake River Conference.
